Construction on the $58 million Federal Courthouse in downtown Ft Pierce has been delayed because the only bid that came in for the project was $12 million over budget. The federal GSA is now examining the plans to determine if the approved budget will be sufficient. They will then either solicit new bids in the spring/summer of 2008, or go back to Congress to request more money. Our Congressman and other local officials are actively working to ensure the project moves ahead. The Federal Courthouse is expected to spur further economic development in the area, and will likely have a positive impact on the local real estate market.

News and General Interest

Updated status on the ROUNDABOUT at our entrance: As of January 24 2008, FDOT and the city are still working to finalize the  “transfer of right-of-way” (FDOT needs to own the land that the roundabout will occupy). FDOT will not issue the final permit approval until the transfer is complete. The city says they are prepared to send the project out for bids as soon as the permit is approved. This bureaucratic process has obviously taken much too long, but this will be a terrific improvement to our entrance when it's finally built.

The A1A/Seaway Drive reconstruction project is progressing. The stretch of A1A south of Harbour Isle (down in the area of Ocean Village) is almost complete, and the area looks much better. The portion of A1A/Seaway Drive adjacent to our property is planned for 2008.

The refurbishment of Causeway Park (directly across the street from Harbour Isle) is still in the planning phase. Responsibility for the project is being moved from the county to the city. The scope of the project has been scaled down with a smaller budget, but the improved layout, landscaping, and parking will be a great improvement to the overall appearance of our immediate area. Construction is not expected to begin until 2009.

The vacant land next to Harbour Isle (where the mobile home community was previously located) has been cleaned up, and is still for sale. There has been some public discussion about the desirability of combining this property with the adjacent land that is currently occupied by the water treatment plant. City officials have stated their desire to move the plant inland within five years, thereby making that additional land available for public use and/or potentially private development.

With two “hurricane-free” years, the landscaping throughout Harbour Isle East is in good condition. Our irrigation system has been refined, and is now more efficient and uses less water.

The East Clubhouse has wireless internet access available for use by residents.  Please limit your usage to occasional non-business purposes.
